Celebrating nine years as a destination for the arts in Alameda, Rhythmix Cultural Works presents its third annual Wine, Women & Song Festival featuring some of the Bay Area’s finest women winemakers, musicians and artists. Experience tasty temptations and luscious libations alongside contemporary art and world-class music ranging from jazz fusion to taiko to rhythm and blues.
2. $20 Movie and a Meal
Have you seen Ghostbusters, Bad Moms, Jason Bourne, Pete’s Dragon or Sausage Party? The list of summer movies is pretty great at the Alameda Theatre this weekend. This might be a good time to try the Cinema Grill red carpet entrance. They have a deal for a $20 movie and a meal. Great seat, good food and cocktails.
This skewed take on The Pilgrim’s Progress comes from the comedic geniuses David and Amy Sedaris of NPR and Strangers With Candy fame. Sister Elizabeth Donderstock of the Squeamish religious order gives up her life’s work – making extraordinarily delicious cheese balls – to try her luck in the real world. Her wandering adventures lead her to an array of quirky and hilarious characters as she struggles to figure out where she belongs.
4. Get that house organized and school supplies bought!
We know… this isnt really a fun thing to do this weekend, but the reality is school starts Monday August 22. A week earlier this year, so the reality is many of us will be at home doing this.
